Options in Bradford

If you are struggling to find suitable options in Leeds, we recommend considering nearby Bradford where hotel rates are very reasonable. The BRAIS 2024 conference venue is just a five minute walk from Leeds Central Railway Station, and there are trains every 15 minutes from Bradford Interchange Station to Leeds. The train journey takes just 20 minutes and a return ticket costs just £7.70. Staying in Bradford City Centre would therefore be an excellent option for anyone on a tight budget. The following hotels are very affordable and are located within a ten minute walk of Bradford Interchange Station:

BRAIS invites academic publishers from across the world to join us for our 2025 Annual Conference taking place in the historic surroundings of the Old Divinity School, St John's College, University of Cambridge. 

If you are an academic publisher with interests in any aspect of Islamic Studies then we encourage you to reserve a table as part of our Publisher Exhibition.

The Publisher Exhibition will be located at the heart of the conference in the Main Hall (see image below) where all refreshments and lunches will be served to delegates, maximising engagement between publishers and delegates.

Exhibition Costs

The cost of a table at the BRAIS 2025 Publisher Exhibition is £350. This includes all lunches and refreshments for up to two publisher representatives on both days of the conference (Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 May). Additional representatives can attend at a rate of £50 per person for the full conference.

If you would like to include promotional materials in all BRAIS delegate packs, this will cost £100 (we anticipate around 180 delegates attending BRAIS 2025 in total). Promotional materials are limited to a maximum of four A4 pages.

The British Association for Islamic Studies will be offering up to 15 bursaries for doctoral students whose papers have been accepted as part of the 2026 Annual Conference programme. 
 
Bursaries include a full conference fee waiver and a £100 contribution towards travel and accommodation.

If you are a doctoral student and your abstract has been accepted for BRAIS 2026, you might be eligible to apply for a conference bursary. To apply, you will need to meet the following criteria:

  • Applicants must be in their second year or higher of their PhD programme
  • Applicants should provide a formal statement of support from their supervisor
  • Applicants’ papers must have been accepted for the BRAIS 2025 conference

Please note, the application process is administered by our Management Hub at the Alwaleed Centre, University of Edinburgh.

Please submit your application by 5pm GMT on Monday 9 March 2026. Applications received after this date will not be considered.

Applications will be considered by the BRAIS Conference Committee and bursaries will be awarded based on the excellence of the abstract, quality and originality of the research and the potential for subsequent research.

The British Association for Islamic Studies is delighted to be hosting its 2020 Annual Conference in the stunning surroundings of the Aga Khan University's Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilisations, Aga Khan Centre, London.
 
This iconic new building will welcome more than 200 delegates from across the world for two days of stimulating panels and plenaries covering the ful breadth and depth of contemporary Islamic Studies.
 
The 2020 Call for Papers is now live and can be viewed HERE. The deadline for submissions is midnight GMT on Sunday 17th November. We hope to receive abstracts from a wide diversity of scholars, from PhD candidates through to established senior academics.
 
We will also be receiving applications for pre-arranged panels (up to four papers per panel). If you have a panel theme in mind, we look forward to hearing from you.
 
BRAIS is a forum for productive, convivial and supportive scholarly exchange and relationship-building and we hope you'll join us for what promises to be a truly memorable 2020 conference.
